Nutritional diets for
breeders, babies and adolescents
any medical and nutritional
problems seen in adult birds can be traced back to improper feeding programs
during initial growth stages. A nutritionally complete diet, which includes
proper nutrition, should be an important part of your hand-feeding and
weaning program.
When hand-feeding, irreparable
damage to bones and organs can occur in as little as ten days if diet is
deficient in important nutrients. The need for adequate nutrition is crucial
from the time of hatching on to adulthood. Hand-feeding formulas should supply a
nutritional balance of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals and
liquids and most commercial formulas do this. Lactobacillus and natural enzymes
benefit digestion and should be included in every chick’s diet.
At weaning it is important to
introduce young maturing birds to as wide a variety of foods as possible. Foods
young birds are aquatinted with at this time will form the corner stone of his
adult diet. Proper nutrition and diet and of course good management is the basis
to a successful hand feeding and weaning programs.
Most commercial hand-feeding
formulas on the market are quite good. We find the formulas listed below to be
well balanced and easy to use.
