AN INTRODUCTION TO CAGE'N BIRD BROODERS

Artificial Brooding Cage 'N Bird’s Natural Way

Altrical birds taken from their parents or hatched in incubators require a warm, secure, thermostatically controlled environment in order to survive.  The closer we come to imitating natural brooding environments the more stress free, psychologically stable and physically fit our babies will become.

We take pride in our handcrafted brooders.  Water Nannies, Baby Corrals, our B.H.W's and our Baby Nurse CUDDLERS were invented here. These brooders are manufactured on premises and are the only brooders used in CAGE'N BIRD'S nursery. Cage 'N Bird has developed a popular line of safe, easy to clean, economical brooders which follow Mother Natures guide lines. Our nursery and breeding facility make it possible to research, develop and test new ideas, equipment and products. For several years ( since 1987 ) we have been actively developing and continually improving a line of "Natural Brooders" which we feel are the safest, easiest to use, and most versatile brooders available today. Our unique line of Avian Pediatric Environments are based on natural scientific principals which have been thoroughly field tested.

By close observation and monitoring of nest boxes and brooding hens with chicks we have developed a unique concept relating to the artificial brooding of altrical birds. By applying proven natural  scientific principals to our brooder designs we are able to offer to you light weight, uncomplicated environments that are portable, use water a highly desirable heating medium. The water, which operates as a heat sink, maintains heat naturally, inside the brooder, for several hours, when not plugged in. CAGE'N BIRD'S Water Nannie's and Baby Corrals take advantage of the scientific “Principal of Stored Heat". Temperature is maintained with barley a one degree loss, for up to 4 hours, using no supplemental power.

A natural convection current, best realized in our Baby Corrals, helps in keeping our brooders well ventilated with a healthy exchange of warm fresh air. The gentle circulation of fresh air helps chicks acclimatize to variable warmth reduces stress and experience a minimum of health problems. Water Nannies and our Baby Corrals use radiant heat to gently warm babies. Thermostatically controlled heat, radiating from the warmed contained water (water is approximately the temperature of a brooding hen at the ideal setting), provide a naturally satisfying warmth that is similar to natures way of keeping babies warm.  In nature temperature within a nest is not always constant. There are no thermostats to keep a nest uniformly heated at all times. Obviously the hottest point and most constant temperature within a nest is around and under the mother bird. On observing nesting behavior in parrots with chicks we noticed the youngest chicks huddled against and under the mother but older babies were scattered at various points within the nest and were usually not touching the mother. We also noticed that  babies seek temperature zones appropriate to their ages .

Cage 'N Bird believe brooders should imitate nature and afford babies the option of choosing their own comfort zone within the artificial environment we provide for them. Our brooders are designed with radiating temperature zones making it possible for babies to seek out the areas where they are most comfortable. As in nature the warmest point within the brooder should be approximately the temperature of a mother bird. Temperature zones inside the container should radiate from the warmest point with degree differences between the heat source and the farthest point within the brooder. We find babies are always comfortable in our brooders. Babies are not relying on a human to decide what makes them comfortable, and each individual bird is in control of his own environment.

In order to customize a brooder to your needs we offer brooders in three styles, Water Nannies, Baby Corrals and the B.H.W.  weaning cage/brooder, and a choice of several sizes.  Cage 'N Birds brooders are safe, easy to clean, lightweight, economical and attractive. Our brooders are proven to reduce stress, encourage weaning, and in general help to produce more healthy active chicks. We take pride in our handcrafted products. Call for a free consultation.

Together we can customize a hand-feeding program to fit your needs.
